Mass. sues 5 big lenders; Florida Democrats say Pam Bondi not tough enough on banks

Massachusetts sued five of the nation’s largest lenders Thursday, accusing them of deceptive foreclosure practices, as Florida’s Senate Democrats hammered Attorney General Pam Bondi for what they say is a lack of action on behalf of struggling homeowners.

The Florida Senate Democratic Office said it was just coincidence that a nearly three-minute-long video it produced criticizing Bondi’s foreclosure investigations was released on the same morning as the landmark bank lawsuit in Massachusetts was announced.

But it follows enduring complaints that Bondi, who belongs to an attorneys general executive committee negotiating a nationwide foreclosure settlement with banks, is falling short in holding lenders and lawyers accountable for alleged foreclosure malpractice.
