Realtors group addresses veterans’ housing issues

Some house-hunters are a lot more specific about what they want in a house than others are: A prime example might be recent veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who are returning to American soil with physical and emotional disabilities.

About a year ago, real estate professionals at the Chicago Association of Realtors concluded that such veterans who were searching for housing probably weren’t being adequately served, and they set out to educate their peers on the veterans’ potential medical, emotional and financial concerns.

The result was “Heroes Welcome Home,” a two-day program that brought together physicians, architects, experts on veterans’ benefits and others who explained to about 150 real estate agents and brokers how they might better help returning troops.
