Royal Palm to require lenders of vacant houses to register and maintain them

ROYAL PALM BEACH — The house next door might be abandoned, but if the village has its way, it won’t look like it.

A new local ordinance calls for the at least 400 vacant or foreclosed homes in the village to be registered and maintained.

“Somebody needs to be tagged with responsibility: keeping the pool working, screens up, just maintaining the property,” Councilman David Swift said.

“It’s been very difficult for us to do. We need to have a legal means.
